Coral Gardens. Situated on Whitehouse Reef, this upscale resort is set in an expanse of tropical greenery and color. The three-story hotel exudes an atmosphere of elegance and grace. The condominium-style guest suites are spacious and tastefully furnished, air-conditioned, with king-size beds and large windows. Each has a patio that overlooks the pool and gardens. Each has a fully equipped kitchen. The bathrooms are large and cool. Facilities include two pools, the Coyoba restaurant elegant, blm campgrounds great food, good service and, of course, the beach and its adjacent reef complex, which provides one of the finest snorkeling opportunities on the island. Boxing Day/Junkanoo blm campgrounds Parade (Dec 26): The biggest public celebration on the islands, especially in Nassau. This is a traditional British holiday, when the wealthy boxed their Christmas dinner leftovers and presented them to their servants.
Grand Turk is where the government of the tiny island group has its headquarters. It s also the location of the capitol city, Cockburn Town. Cockburn, by the way, is pronounced Coburn. This town of 3,500 is a happening place. Grand Turk is not top of the list as far as tourism is concerned, but it is a little less expensive than its more popular neighbor, Providenciales. The island itself has little going for it. It does have some fine beaches and the snorkeling is good, but it lacks aesthetic appeal. There is no lush tropical vegetation here, few color
